January 2014 started with kick-of meetings and preparation sessions at the ”Dierenpark Emmen” and monkey park “Apenheul” Apeldoorn, the Netherlands.

The aim is to test the food waste management and prediction program that was co-developed by Q-Point for the famous Dutch “Burgers Zoo” in Arnhem Netherlands. This project is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Economic affairs under the “SBIR” program, and the practical execution started in January 2013.

These parks are well-known for their  pioneer activities in modern animal keeping, through creating real live habitats.  Therefore it is no surprise these parks are also positive contributors to corporate social responsibility issues, varying from environmental, wildlife protection and issues concerning fair trade. In line with this policy “Burgers Zoo Kitchen and Horeca Department initiated the project aiming to develop a  prediction system to tackle the food waste problem they met in their restaurants and outlets.Sebastiaan Hetterschijt, Olivia Ansenk, Victor Volkers, Apenheul, SBIR, Food Waste, Voedsel derving, Q-Point’s senior consultant Mr Sebastiaan Hetterschijt at the time present as consultant on Good Hygiene practices for the Park Restaurants, became involved and he was able to write the winning technical proposal that rewarded a considerable subsidy for the innovative Food Waste project.
